$55M FedEx Bias Settlement Moves Forward
A federal judge granted preliminary approval to a $55 million settlement of a class action race discrimination lawsuit against FedEx Express. The lawsuit was filed in 2003 and alleged that the company discriminated against black and Hispanic workers and lower-level black managers in pay and promotions.


March Sees Slight Decrease in Hispanic Unemployment
Overall U.S. unemployment was essentially unchanged in March at 4.4 percent, with the unemployment rate for Hispanics decreasing slightly to 5.1 percent, according to US Labor Department figures.

MTV to Launch MTV Tr3s to Target Acculturated Latinos
MTV has announced the launch of MTV Tr3s (MTV Three), a new bilingual music channel targeting 12-to-34-year-old bicultural U.S. Hispanics. The new channel "will change the way young Latinos are served in this country," said Christina Norman, president of MTV.


Hispanics multitask online
According to a recent study from Yahoo and Simmons Market Research, Hispanics spend 14 hours each day with media/technology products and generally use more than one device (television, laptop, radio, etc.) at a time.

  • Donald K. Parsons has been hired as general sales manager for Vista magazine, a mostly English-language magazine targeting Latinos. Vista is distributed in 29 markets 11 times per year,


  • Mauricio Cardenas has been named chief officer for Coors Brewing Co.'s Latin America and U.S. multicultural markets. He will oversee an enhanced marketing strategy for Latinos and African Americans.


  • Andrés Ordóñez was appointed as creative director for the Hispanic ad agency Zubi Advertising. Ordóñez joins Zubi from BBDO Puerto Rico.
