  • Patricia Diaz Dennis has been elected by the Girl Scouts of the USA as its new Chair of the National Board of Directors. Diaz Dennis currently serves as senior vice president and assistant general counsel for SBC Communications, Inc. in San Antonio, Texas.
  • Carlos Alcazar has been named President of Hispanic Communications Network (HCN), a leading producer of media campaigns targeting U.S. Latinos. Leveraging the company's radio and newspaper experience, Alcazar will be expanding HCN into television, custom publishing and the Web.

Venezuela threatens US over F-16s
President Hugo Chavez has warned the US he could give some of his country's F-16 fighter jets to Cuba or China, accusing the U.S. of breaking a contract to supply spare parts for the jets it sold to Venezuela in the 1980s.


Whale of deal to shield Mexico calving ground
U.S. and Mexican conservationists and communal land holders have agreed on a plan to limit further development of area around a northern Mexico lagoon that serves as a calving ground for gray whales.
