Waves from storm batter Central America
Huge waves generated by a storm 2,000 miles away battered a long stretch of the Pacific coast on June 20, wrecking homes, hotels and restaurants from Peru to Central America. There are currently no reports of fatalities, but hundreds were evacuated.

In the 10 months since hurricane Katrina, New Orleans has seen the most rapid racial shift of any city in America. It has lost more than a quarter of a million blacks - more than half its total population - and gained some 14,000 new Hispanics, according to a new report.

Sao Paulo and Santiago are the best business cities in Latin America and Caracas and Asuncion the worst, according to a new ranking of 40 cities in the region. The survey, developed by America Economia magazine, looked at 10 key factors including the size of the cities' economies, population and quality of life.
