The rapidly growing Hispanic population in the U.S. has companies hunting executives who are tuned in to the language and culture.


Immigration limits invite violations
Hoping to resolve disagreements within the Republican Party and win bipartisan support, President Bush announced an immigration-reform proposal that would tighten border security and establish a temporary guest worker program. It would also reject complete amnesty for illegal immigrants already in the country.


Red Cross seeks diversity
The American Red Cross has launched an aggressive effort to reach out to racial and ethnic minorities and add more of them to the charity's vast network of volunteers, in response to criticism of its Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.


Hispanic leaders: Immigrant Katrina workers unpaid
The head of the nation's largest Hispanic civil rights group visited the hurricane-ravaged Mississippi Gulf Coast to investigate claims that immigrant workers are living in squalor and being cheated out of wages.


U.S. Third-Qtr Productivity Rises 4.7%; Costs Fall 1%
The productivity of U.S. workers rose at the fastest pace in two years and labor costs dropped for a second quarter, easing concern that rising wages will fuel inflation.

Executive Appointments

  • Allen Gutierrez has been named Chief Operating Officer of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC). Prior to joining the USHCC, he previously served as Senior Advisor to the Chief Operating Officer for the U.S. Small Business Administration as well as the Senior Advisor to the Office of International Trade.
  • Luis A. Aguilar of McKenna Long & Aldridge, LLP, has been selected by the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) as its Lawyer of the Year for 2005. Mr. Aguilar was selected by a special review committee from among the most highly regarded attorneys in the country.
