Description

The Cytogenetics Laboratory Coordinator/MLT is responsible for: gathering and accessioning patient samples into the CoPath Laboratory Information System (LIS); evaluating the quality of biological specimens, reasons for referral, type of analyses indicated, and patient information; assuring timely transportation of biological specimens to and from the lab; maintaining specimen logs on a daily basis; providing backup for the Laboratory Manager and senior technologists for verification of clinical cases and entering laboratory report information into CoPath; verifying quality assurance standards for all clerical procedures; producing lab reports and transmitting them to the requesting physicians and institutions; providing clerical and customer service support to the Cytogenetics Laboratory .


Requirements

* Associate Science degree from an accredited institution including six months laboratory training in an approved MLT program and certification by ASCP, NCA, MLP, AMT, HHS, etc; OR a high school diploma or equivalent, three years on-site training or equivalent, certification by ASCP, NCA, etc., college courses preferred.

* Familiarity with personal computers and word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.

* Ability to work independently under general supervision.

* Effective interpersonal skills required in interactions with department staff, other CHI personnel, physicians, other agencies and institutions, and the public.

* Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
