This is a fee for service position* ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The Bilingual School Psychologist must be able to consistently and successfully perform all essential functions of the position. 1. Conduct monolingual and bilingual preschool assessments as required upon referral from school districts CPSE 2. Conduct monolingual and bilingual Early Intervention assessments as required upon referral from county 3. Provide evaluation results to parents at the time of the assessment 4. Provide written reports for each child evaluated within the mandated time frame 5. Consult with members of the multidisciplinary evaluation team during and subsequent to the evaluation 6. Perform any other duties as requested by your supervisor 7. Perform Behavioral and Health and Safety Standards as defined in the employee handbook Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of position skill and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - Masters Degree in School Psychology with New York State certification as a school psychologist with bilingual extension in Spanish; 1 year experience working with children with Developmental Disabilities and/or severe challenging behaviors; Professional experience with culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) children, including knowledge of the impact of cultural factors on performance and behavior, and the ability to interpret assessment data through the integration of socio-cultural background, experiential background, and socio-linguistic developmental factors. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Etc. - Maintains certification as a school psychologist with bilingual extension in Spanish. Maintains membership in one or more professional organizations related to school psychology or early childhood education; OCFS (Office of Child & Family Services) fingerprint clearance. COMMUNICATION SKILLS Written and oral communication fluency in both English and Spanish languages. This includes the ability to communicate with children and parents in assessment situations, use technical language associated with psychological assessment, read and interpret general education periodicals/professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations, and write and comprehend routine instructions, short correspondence, evaluation reports, etc. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small and large group situations to parents, students, and other employees of the organization etc. OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES - Familiarity with evaluation procedures for individuals with various developmental disabilities, working knowledge of local agencies/services, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Annual physical and tuberculosis tests as well as vaccination documentation required. Current NYS drivers license and reliable transportation to evaluation sites in the community. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
