Job Description:
A Research Fellow position is available in a translational hematology research program. This is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. 800146; J2WRTP

Basic Qualifications:
Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere.     • Overall assessment of potential for success in research environment.

    • Original or notarized copy of diploma or final transcript issued by school (English translation required).


Other Qualifications:
Primary job duties include the planning, set up and conduct of experiments including analysis of data under the guidance of the principal investigator. The individual will support other laboratory staff with a focus on cell culture, laboratory inventory and database management. The individual will be expected to help oversee laboratory inventory, populate databases for sample management, and oversee pipet calibration schedule and other general laboratory maintenance. Independently sets up and performs experiments and procedures in support of lab goals and grant commitments (e.g. assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, etc.). Preferred qualifications include proficiency in most methods of a molecular biology laboratory. These include but are not limited to cell line maintenance such as media preparations, routine mycoplasma screening, and freezing & thawing cells to maintain low-passage stocks. Applicant will help process and culture patient primary cell samples using ACK lysis and/or ficoll gradient separation as needed. Other technical skills include western/immuno-blotting, whole cell extract protein preparation and quantification, nucleic acid extraction and quantification, clonogenic assays, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence microscopy and familiarity with siRNA transfections (RNAi work) and high-throughput screening/methods (i.e. RNAi and drug screening). A background and previous experience in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, oncology, or a related field encompassing the specific techniques outlined is highly desired. Previous research experience, attention to detail, good record-keeping and oral/written communication is preferred. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic research environment.
