By providing medical services, education, training and advocacy, PPM seeks to help individuals make informed decisions about their reproductive health, family planning options, and sexuality. Under the general direction of the Health Center Director, the Bilingual Health Center Associate performs the administrative and clinical support tasks necessary for efficient center operations to ensure high quality client services and support, informed consent, client education and counseling, effective clinical support, efficient client flow, and a professional health care environment. This position requires routine travel between our Baltimore city and Annapolis locations. This position also requires bilingual fluency in reading, writing and speaking both English and Spanish. Proficiency will be tested during the hiring process. We are looking for an experienced, competent person to help accomplish our goals. Experience working in a customer or patient service environment experience is required; medical interpretation experience and/or training is strongly preferred. Maintain medical record documentation and laboratory documentation. Assist the clinician with surgical and post-surgical services. Administer/dispense medications to patients per clinicians written orders and as allowed by PPM/State/Medical Board regulations. Perform daily/periodic quality assurance activities: collect and process blood and urine specimens according to PPM Lab Manual; prepare specimen laboratory requisition for processing by appropriate outside laboratory; maintain lab log with all tests performed and test results; file normal test results in medical record; refer abnormal results to clinician and assist with follow-up. Clean and maintain proper working order of clinic equipment. Clean, wrap, and sterilize instruments according to OSHA standards. Perform/record monthly autoclaves spore testing. Prepare patient and exam rooms for daily procedures. Stock, clean and organize exam rooms, utility rooms, and medical storage rooms. Maintain supply inventory. Assist clinician in exam rooms as needed during patient exams/procedures. Provide empathetic, non-judgmental, non-directive educational counseling sessions to clients seeking abortion services. Maintain medical record documentation. Review with and give to patient all PPM Fact Sheets concerning their visit/services/procedures and contraceptive choices. Provide information for assessment of STI risks, pregnancy and contraceptive options consistent with patients value system. Offer community referrals and resources to patients. Ensure informed consent via information and education about the medical procedures, requested/required laboratory tests, and methods of contraception to assure understanding of risks and complications. Assure that patient is firm in decision to receive services from PPM, including medical procedures/examinations, medications and testing. Obtain and witness all necessary consents. Document patients decisions on chart. Check charts daily for proper completion of paperwork. Assist with chart pulling/filing as needed. Assist with preparation of medical referrals for patients. Upon completion of training, perform sonograms for termination sizing under the supervision of a clinician. Assist with emergency situations according to PPM standards and guidelines. Travels to surgical sites as scheduled (Baltimore City, Annapolis). Other duties as assigned. Participate in health center efforts to achieve established goals for productivity. Adhere to affiliate goals and policies on professionalism, wait time in-clinic and on the phone, and the system for addressing client complaints. Participate in health center/affiliate efforts to achieve established revenue cycle goals. Other duties as assigned.
