Major Purpose of Job:

The Test Development Editor strengthens the writing quality of questions used on FINRA and client examinations. This individual is responsible for ensuring all exam content uses appropriate style, grammar, and terminology. The editor maintains a style guide for each program, reviews all exam questions before publication, and works directly with authors to clarify meaning. In addition, the editor proofreads supporting materials including content outlines, reports, and presentations as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

• Maintain style guides documenting writing, formatting, and terminology standards for FINRA and/or client examinations.
• Work with Qualifications Analysts to train authors on style and usage standards.
• Edit examination questions for style, grammar, clarity, and terminology.
• Proofread content outlines, program-related communications, presentations, and similar supporting materials.
• Proofread test-development documentation and technical reports.
• Work with internal staff and client representatives to meet project schedules.
• Serve as a resource to FINRA staff on editorial matters.
• Contribute to special projects as assigned by management

Education/Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, or related field
• Minimum of two (2) years editing experience
• Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to quickly gain sufficient subject matter familiarity to successfully edit technical material
• Familiarity with testing, financial, or securities industry desirable
• Familiarity with Associated Press style desirable
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
• Proficiency with standard office software.

Working Conditions:

Standard office working conditions with infrequent travel (less than 10%)
