Description

The Prior Authorization RN is responsible for reviewing request received from providers, using approved protocols and criteria (Milliman Care Guidelines or InterQual criteria). The RN is expected to approve those requests that meet medical necessity, along with benefit level, and the contractual status of the provider/facility as appropriate for all full-funded lines of business. In this role you will be expected to send cases that do not meet these requirements to the Medical Director for review. You will also be responsible for maintaining the established productivity standards, along with being within the timeframes required for completion by policy, procedure and all regulatory bodies. The RN is responsible for knowing the policies, procedures, and processes that relate to the position.
 
Job Responsibilities include:
  • Assesses and interprets customer needs and requirements.
  • Identifies solutions to non-standard requests and problems.
  • Solves moderately complex problems and/or conducts moderately complex analyses.
  • Works with minimal guidance; seeks guidance on only the most complex tasks.
  • Translates concepts into practice.
  • Provides explanations and information to others on difficult issues.
  • Coaches, provides feedback, and guides others.
  • Acts as a resource for others with less experience.




Requirements

Requirements:
  • Current, unrestricted RN license in the State of AZ
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience including clinical experience in an inpatient and/or acute setting
  • Strong inbound and outbound telephonic skills
  • Ability to quickly learn multiple computer systems
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume environment
  • Basic level of experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Internet Explorer, with the ability to navigate a Windows environment
Preferred Assets:
  • Experience in a managed care organization preferred
  • Case management and/or prior authorization experience preferred
