Duties and Responsibilities: Loyola University Chicago, College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Modern Languages and Literatures invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Associate Professor, Applied Linguistics, beginning Fall Semester 2013. The department serves 134 majors and 496 minors and has an M.A. program in Spanish. For information about the department, please visit w.luc.edu/modernlang/index.shtml. Applicants will be expected to coordinate and articulate the beginning Spanish-language sequence, and to provide guidance for such coordination and articulation across the Spanish curriculum. They will teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including a methodology seminar for Spanish M.A. students. On-going assessment will be among the responsibilities of this position. Minimum Education or Experience: Applicants must have a Ph.D. with a strong record of excellent scholarship, teaching, and student mentorship to warrant an application for tenure during the first year of the appointment. They must also demonstrate leadership success in language program development and organization, a commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, and an ability to carry out ongoing curricular assessment and data-based curricular modification. Other qualifications include: Demonstrated research and a research agenda in applied linguistics, socio-linguistics, or foreign language pedagogy; native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English; evidence of effective teaching in Spanish language, linguistics and culture; expertise in course coordination and articulation according to ACTFL guidelines; and curriculum design and management of multiple language sessions.
