Employment Counselor, Bilingual Spanish - P04313 Tracking Code 213197-023 Job Description Position Objective: Within the context of a welfare-to-work continuum, WeCARE provides a full range of social and medical evaluation, case management, job readiness, job placement and retention services to individuals with disabilities, with a focus on developing customized goals based on individual strengths and limitations and moving individuals toward economic independence. Provides vocational counseling and follow-up services to WeCARE participants in all areas related to employment, assisting with pre-employment preparation and post employment issues and benefits, in order to maximize satisfactory and long-term employment retention. Essential Functions: * Provides vocational counseling and support to all assigned WeCARE participants to prepare them for interviews, increase job-readiness, and assist them in obtaining and maintaining employment. * Collaborates with case managers on all issues related to participant job-readiness, preparation for employment, interviewing, placement, and employment retention. * Provides counseling and follow-up services to employment participants regarding job progress, benefits, childcare, and any other issues that may impact upon job satisfaction, productivity, or long-term employment retention. * Educates participants on issues related to post employment, including but not limited to employment reporting obligations, transitional benefits, goal development, retention strategies, etc. * Conducts and participates in workshops, meetings, and ceremonies for employed participants as necessary. May be assigned to participate in after-hours meetings. Required Skills * Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university required; in lieu of degree High School/GED and equivalent experience will be considered. * Must be fluent in Spanish. * Ability to teach individually and groups. * Ability to provide vocational counseling, build self-esteem, access resources, develop resumes, network. * Familiarity with NYC Public Assistance policies and procedures. * Excellent organizational skills. * Ability to motivate participants toward full-time, entry employment * Ability to motivate placed participants toward the retention of entry-level employment * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Basic computer software literacy and computer usage experience. Required Experience * Must have at least one to two years work experience, preferably in the field of social services. * Experience in the field of employment, vocational rehabilitation, or welfare to work population preferred. * Experience working with people with disabilities preferred.
