The Information Technology a ' Application Development department has an immediate opening for a Lead Java Developer on the IT-Application Development team.  The ideal candidate will be an experienced developer with the following qualities: strong customer focus, drive for success, teamwork, innovation, flexibility and adaptability.  This individual will also need to have excellent written and oral communication skills and can prepare and conduct presentations for a wide variety of audiences.  The ideal candidate will be able to mentor other developers on the team, and work in collaboration with the Application Architect. The candidate will be able to research and evaluate new technologies as they apply to Application Development.   

The Lead Java developer is responsible for developing, testing, implementing, debugging, and supporting computer software that resides and is executed in a J2EE environment.  Typically possesses several years of experience in the function and is knowledgeable in all aspects of the work.  Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of particular field of specialization to the completion of difficult assignments. Has well-developed leadership qualities.
 
Responsibilities:  Plans, conducts and supervises assignments, generally involving larger and more complex projects or more than one project. Coordinates day-to-day operations of a group of employees (typically four or more individuals); leads, assigns, and monitors work progress. Reviews progress and evaluates results. Schedules and may supervise project work. May act in liaison capacity with other departments, divisions, and organizations. Evaluates progress and results and recommends major changes in procedures. Provides input to the review and evaluation of personnel performance.
This position includes both development and support responsibilities so the ability to handle multiple tasks with a high degree of flexibility and adaptability is critical.  There is frequent interaction with customers and other groups so excellent communication and teamwork is required.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Must be willing to travel overnight as required.
  • Utilize Object Oriented Analysis and Design
  • Implement user interface design and requirements
  • Translate design and requirements into code
  • Code software following standard design patterns and best practices
  • Create prototypes as appropriate and participate in post-implementation reviews
  • Perform unit and integration testing and write test cases/scripts for unit and integration testing
  • Test developer tools under new environments (IE10, Windows 8, etc.)
  • Carry on-call cell phone and provide on-call support when necessary
  • Research/review patches and new versions of applications
  • Package and deploy code for J2EE Web Applications (EARs, WARs, JARs)
  • Create and maintain technical documentation
  • Develop system requirement documents and modeling artifacts for use by developers
  • Provide technical leadership for the team and lead and mentor other developers
  • Provide work effort estimates to project manager
  • Design database in consultation with application DBA and Application Architect
  • Design software
  • Work with system architect to follow established technical standards and constraints, leveraging existing components, evaluating whether existing application/code can be used
  • Validate feasibility of system design provided by system architect
  • Design new functionality for reuse as well as design application security a ' use of certificates, file access, etc.
