Job Summary:

Reporting to the EVP of Corporate Communications, the Senior Director of Executive Communications will work closely with the EVP in developing and implementing a comprehensive communications program. The Senior Director will serve as the most senior speech writer for the Chairman and CEO and will advise senior management on strategic and tactical communications matters.

Essential Job Functions:

The role will partner with the Executive Vice President on the development of enterprise-wide strategic communications planning and lead the execution of these strategies. This will involve developing clear and consistent messaging and identifying high-impact and appropriate opportunities to deliver messages. Moreover, working closely with the Vice President of Media and the Vice President of Communication Services, the candidate will be expected to position the CEO and the senior management team strategically in high-impact situations with key constituencies, leveraging FINRA's network of established relationships. As such, the candidate will take an active role in crafting the executive communications and speeches of the CEO while advising other senior management members on their communications needs.

Other Responsibilities:

Stays abreast of trends and innovations in communications, technology and electronic media, explore various communications mechanisms, and implement innovative communications plans and systems as appropriate. Remains current in knowledge of developments and discourse related to financial markets and services and the regulation thereof, as well as investor protection and education.



Requirements

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree required, master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in progressively more responsible roles in corporate communications, within the financial services industry or as a senior member of the media covering the financial services industry.
  • Must possess outstanding written and verbal communications and the confidence to provide effective advice, counsel and coaching to executives, managers and colleagues.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to relate sophisticated information and concepts in plain English, are a must.
  • Experience in a speechwriting role for a CEO or other organizational leader is required.
  • Experience managing an organization's reputation and messaging in traditional and digital media, including online news sites, blogs and social media.
  • An understanding of the public policy and regulatory environment governing securities companies both nationally and at the state level is strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage numerous issues and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-visibility work environment, and a track record of delegating effectively to team members.
  • Success in a highly collaborative, team-oriented business environment; where results are dependent on the ability to balance a strong bias for action with the need for cross-functional integration.

Working Conditions:

Work is normally performed in an office environment, with extended hours when necessary. Travel is required.
