Description
This full-time position will work directly with the Community Relations Team on community relations/outreach projects. The successful candidate will support staff in the development and implementation of external communication strategies to build and maintain positive relationships with the client and their community and business stakeholders; federal, state, and local governments; tribal governments; the media; and the general public. Fluency in Spanish (written and oral) is required for this position.
Major Responsibilities:1. Create English and Spanish community relations materials in accordance with DoD and EPA regulations.2. Research military history of project locations.3. Conceptualize, write, develop, and ensure the timely production of deliverables including community relations plans, articles, talking points, FAQs, news releases, media kits, fact sheets, and website content.4. Respond to English and Spanish inquiries regarding property remediation.5. Generate quick and accurate responses for the client to media inquiries.6. Utilize Web 2.0 channels to convey the clients message and assess the impact of activities, programs, and decisions that are initiated by the client.7. Coordinate public meeting and community event participation.
Education
Bachelors Degree
Experience
One to three years of relevant experience in community and media relations, including:- Experience using Microsoft Office products and Adobe Acrobat.- Experience in community relations, public relations, media relations, and integrated communications techniques and practices.- Written and oral communication skills.- Excellent command of English and Spanish usage and grammar, including Associated Press style.- Experience planning and hosting public meetings and events.- Research and report writing experience.
Special Requirements/Certifications
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, and Skill Sets:- Familiarity with environmental remediation under the CERCLA process.- Knowledge of the community outreach process for Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) Program.- Proven oral, written, visual, and communication skills that have been utilized in dealing with the public and stakeholders.- Ability to deal diplomatically with a broad array of stakeholders including regulators, community members, and political leaders.- Community relations experience on behalf of federal agencies.- Certified translator credential.Pre-employment Screening:The candidate must have valid U.S. drivers license, a clean driving record, and be willing to travel as needed. A drug/alcohol screening and a background check is required.
