Description



Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, organizes operational workflow, plans for staffing, training and implementation of new processes. Coordinates all technical and administrative functions of assigned facility laboratory with clinical operations. Ensures that the assigned laboratory is operating in full compliance with current state and federal regulations which includes quality control and quality assurance components. Provides oversight to ensure compliance with current regional and laboratory policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

Manages assigned staff
- Participates with supervisor in interviewing, hiring/terminating staff
- Responsible for orienting, training staff and for providing continuing education for staff
- Responsible for directing, scheduling and counseling staff
- Facilitate individual goal setting, assess and review progress, write performance appraisals
- With supervisor, evaluates competency, performance and develops staff
Monitors and ensures compliance with regulations, policies & procedures
- Assures current testing policies and procedures are available and followed in assigned facility
- Communicates new and updated policies and procedures to staff
- Addresses any deviation from expected results for quality control and proficiency testing, investigating and trouble shooting to determine the source of the discrepancy and developing a plan for correction
- Responsible for the oversight of the laboratory safety program
- Responsible for monitoring compliance of clinical staff with point of care testing regulations
- Reviews quality assurance data and makes recommendations for improvement
- Prepares for and participates in state and internal surveys, develops a plan of action for any deficiencies
- With supervisor, responsible for annual applications for laboratory license renewal for assigned facility
Assumes responsibility for day to day operations of assigned facility laboratory
- Ensures adequate and appropriate supplies are maintained, compliant with current contracts
- Monitors workflow and redirects resources as needed
- Ensures member/provider follow up for any testing or specimen issues
- Performs laboratory procedures as needed, following established policies & procedures
- Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of member medical information
- With supervisor, monitors member satisfaction for assigned facility and addresses potential service failures
Collaborates with supervisor, and facility clinical staff
- Represents the laboratory in assigned facility leadership group, communicating new information and changes, soliciting assistance with resolution of inter departmental issues
- Shares information with supervisor to maintain consistency of operations
- With supervisor, investigates issues, provides guidance and develops resolution for clinical and member concerns/questions
Provides feedback
- Participates with supervisor in budget preparation, including capital equipment and FTE allocation, preparing requests and justifications for supervisor using business case tools
- Monitors expenses for assigned facility and with supervisor makes necessary changes/corrections for budget control
- Assists quality manager in reviewing and updating policies and procedures



Requirements

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology or Allied Health Sciences required.
- ASCP MT certification or equivalent required.
- Three years of post certification MT experience required.
- Effective written and oral communication skills required.

Preferred Qualifications

- One year previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Masters degree in business or health care administration.
