Interpreter (Spanish)Department: Older Adult ServicesSalary Range: $15.4187 plus credit for years of experience.Schedule: On CallShift: Evenings/NightsHours: As needed will include weekendsJob Details: Under limited supervision, provides interpreter and translator services to non-English speaking or hearing impaired patients and their families. Is responsible for facilitating effective communication between the interdisciplinary health care team and patient/family; thus ensuring that they are provided appropriate health care and treatment. Functions as an advocate for special needs of patients/families in relationship to issues of culture, ethnicity, and language diversity. Adheres to the principles of Service Excellence Guiding Behaviors and the philosophy and mission of Mercy in all aspects of job performance.Qualifications:1. Requires a high school education or equivalent, associate or bachelors degree preferred.2. Completes the Basic Interpreter Training (BIT), 16 hours or an equivalent training program.3. Requires completion of a medical terminology course or one to two years experience as a Spanish interpreter in a health care setting.4. Must test with a score of 80% or better on language proficiency to be qualified for this position.5. Must be fluent in medical terminology interpreting.6. Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.7. Must have ability to think independently and use discretionary thinking.8. Must be familiar with community agencies and regulations that serve the Hispanic population.9. Is able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change.10. Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.)11. Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.12. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Mercy and Trinity Health.
