Develops and leads supply chain strategies for assigned commodities in accordance with business objectives. Responsible for purchasing commodity products, chemicals, equipment, and supplies. The SR Buyer is responsible for all aspects of daily order management and is able to solve complex problems with innovation and ingenuity. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and prioritizing workload, uses considerable judgment in complex situations. Responsible for committing VWR financial resources. Job Responsibilities: - Makes recommendations to Category Management team and assists in resolution of pricing and product issues. - Expedites, cancels /defers and ensures system generated and manual purchase orders are aligned to support Customer need dates. - Represents the interests of VWR in supplier negotiations. - Serves as liaison between VWR and Suppliers, maintain positive vendor relationships. - Evaluates suppliers based on capability, performance and delivery. - Works with suppliers to improve cost, quality, delivery, and lead time. - Key owner of supplier relationship (with VWR Cat Mgr.). - Owns and resolves the daily tactical supply chain issues; Backorder resolution, Open Order Expediting, Leads time management, Supplier production issues, etc. - Applies appropriate mathematical and statistical tools to resolve complex business issues. - Leads supplier planning sessions in support of VWR goals and objectives. - Negotiates and commits company financial resources. - Responsible for procurement strategy related to material cost reduction, working capital improvements, supplier performance improvements, project management and cost analysis. - Supports new product launches, product promotions, or discontinuations. - Proactively adjusts replenishment strategies to optimize inventory investment. - Establishes positive working relationships with suppliers on behalf of VWR. - Identifies and corrects Supply Chain constraints by acting as liaison between Sales, Customer Service, Warehouse and Suppliers. - Analyzes key trends in order history in the context of the Customers Supply Chain processes to - proactively identify and propose key process improvements to the Supplier and VWR functional teams. - Leads supplier collaboration meeting to improve service to VWR customers. - Represents VWR in supplier negotiations. - Negotiates and settles with suppliers: damage claims, rejections, losses, returns, over shipments, cancellations, and discontinuations. - Collaborates with the appropriate VWR functional teams to ensure timely resolution of issues. - Serves as Subject Matter Expert and support special projects as needed. - Performs other duties as assigned. Experience & Skills: - Solid written and verbal communication skills, work experience in a matrix environment desirable. - Strong analytical skills, demonstrated proficiency in MS Excel and Access. - Formal problem solving training highly desirable, i.e. Six Sigma - Demonstrated proficiency in MS Excel and Access. - Demonstrated ability to analyze large data sets. Qualifications: - BS degree in Logistics, Business, or Mathematics or equivalent experience required; MBA a plus - Bilingual in Mandarin Chinese strongly preferred - At least 3 years working in a procurement capacity preferred - APICS/CPIM certification desirable - Global experience is highly desireable since this position will be working with our Asian suppliers - Resume Submissions To VWR From Third Party Recruitment Firms Will Not Be Considered EOE M/F/D/V VWR maintains a drug free workplace .
