Company Description:
The Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Home is a secure facility for juveniles ages 11 through 17. It is regionally based. Detainees are held from the Cities of Alexandria, Falls Church and Arlington County. The facility has a pre-dispositional, post dispositional and immigration program. The immigration program is refered to as the Office of Refugee and Resettlement Program/Division of Children Services.
Job Description:
The Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Home is seeking bilingual Detention Specialists/Corrections Officers to work in a secure detention home for juveniles, ages 12-17 years of age.
Location: Alexandria, VA
Minimum Qualifications: 21 years of age or older; high school or general education diploma; valid drivers license and a minimum of 1 year of experience working with at-risk youth; must be able to pass a pre-employment test and extensive background checks with the following: Virginia State Police, Child Protective Services and FBI.
Preferred Qualifications: Four year degree.
Excellent physical condition is required. Applicants are subject to a physical examination and drug test.
Preferred Qualifications: Fluent in Spanish and English; seeking candidates with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Candidates will work primarily with juveniles that speak Spanish as their first language and minimal English .
Salary: $37,080 annually and paid benefits to include the following:
Retirement (Virginia Retirement System), Health Care (Carefirst BlueCross) and Life Insurance (Minnesota Life Insurance).
Additional benefits that are optional are the 457 deferred compensation plan (ICMA), Supplement Life Insurance (Minnesota Life Insurance) and Long Term Disability Insurance (Reliance).
