The Certified Ophthalmology Technician works under the general supervision of the Clinical Supervisor and is the subject matter expert for performance of all Ophthalmic tests as requested by Ophthalmologist.

Essential Functions:
- Preceptor of all new technicians, providing training on new equipment and patient care services.
- Conducts skill evaluation for all new technicians and determine training path.
- Responsible for the resource scheduling for all patient visits.
- Provides direct and indirect patient care associated with physician office visit.
- Assist provider in the examination and treatment of ophthalmology patients. This assistance includes, but is not limited to the following:
1. Examine records and forms, and prepares patients for current exam and treatments
2. Prepare appropriate equipment and instruments for surgery and follow-up care.
3. Assists Ophthalmologist by performing technical tests and records results for procedures for the ophthalmologist's analysis and interpretation.
4. Assist in refractive/diagnostic procedures to include manual manifest refractions, auto-refractometry, corneal topography, pachymetry, keratometry, ocular photography, and visual fields and papillary reflex testing.
- Conducts vision screening tests to include, but not limited to, the following:
1. Visual acuity, color vision, tonometry, visual fields, pupil exams, and other technical tests required by the ophthalmologist.
2. Record data of above tests and determines need for further evaluation.
3. Prepare procedure room.
- Assist ophthalmologist with clinical procedures and performs as special assistant, using procedures pertaining to all types ophthalmologic surgeries.
- Prepare patients for and performs general preparation of pre-operative patients. Provide post-operative instructions as directed by the physician.
- Assist provider in contact lens cleaning, dispensing, insertion/removal, and patient instruction. Prepare and fit patients with special optometric devices as instructed by the provider. Instruct patients in correct care, hygiene post-procedurally.
- Order and maintain ophthalmologic medications and supplies.
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly Quality Initiatives for the department.
- Other duties as assigned.



Requirements

Basic Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED
- 10 years experience as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician
- 10 years experience with Goldman Visual Fields, Biometrics, and Fluorescein Angiography
- Ophthalmic Technician Certification
- BLS from American Heart Association


Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate Degree in Optical Technology
- Experience with training or preceptoring preferred
