Sodexo Senior Living is seeking an Executive Chef 2 for Avila Retirement Community in Albany, New York. Avila is a 240 resident upscale independent living retirement community with two kitchens located on two campuses and the Executive Chef at this community will be involved with and responsible for managing the daily operations of the kitchen, implementing production processes, providing oversight for catered events and properly managing food and labor costs. This chef will manage 20 client, non-union employees while ensuring the successful production of 180 four course, upscale meals along with two Continental breakfasts per day in a restaurant-style setting. The Executive Chef will have complete oversight for scheduling, performance evaluations, disciplining and will have full working understanding of HACCP and will ensure that resident and client expectations are exceeded. The best qualified candidate will possess excellent leadership and communication skills. It will be required that this position be hands-on during resident and client functions to produce outstanding and high quality food and dining experiences.
The Executive Chef will have skills to develop menus for all dining events and venues and will provide culinary and kitchen training and coaching to all 20 culinary and utility employees. The ability to handle multiple priorities is helpful.
Reporting to the General Manager, the ideal candidate for this position will have experience respectfully supervising and supporting the production functions of kitchen staff, the ability to motivate employees to continually improve performance and outcomes with a passion for preparing and
executing outstanding dining experiences. The adherence to proper food handling and proper safety programs is critical to success. This manager will work a typical schedule of 9:30 am to 6:30 pm and will be required to work a rotation of every other weekend.
Experience in health care, hospitals, retirement community, country clubs and/or fine dining is ideal.
A working knowledge of web-based food ordering programs and other relevant industry computer software is needed to be successful in this role.

Designs, supervises, coordinates and participates in activities of cooks and other kitchen personnel in a medium to large account. This position is recognized as the technical expert, teacher and trainer for other chefs and cooks within the account. Selects and develops recipes and other items for clients. Develops menu, implements and trains HACCP, oversees/purchases food, establishes production levels and inventory controls, interviews and hires new chefs, manages/controls food cost issues and offer solutions, may train other chefs outside account. May cook selected items, and plan or price menus. Typically has chefs and cooks reporting to this position.
Basic Education Requirement - Technical, Trade, or Vocational School Degree
Basic Management Experience - 2 years
Basic Functional Experience - 2 years work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, etc.
Sodexo will require a background check and may require a drug screen for this position.
