A clear statement of the educational benefit for the applicant must accompany the appointment request. Individuals will train in the research program of the Department of Comparative Medicine at Mayo Clinic by the principal investigator. The American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) Career Pathways Committee is offering an externship program for veterinary medical students and veterinarians outside the field of laboratory animal medicine in order to increase the number of laboratory animal veterinarians in biomedical research. The externship will be offered at Mayo Clinic in Arizona's Scottsdale campus. It will provide a 2-6 week exposure to the profession of laboratory animal medicine. Funds are available to cover mileage and meals.
Basic Qualifications: Must be a current veterinary student or a practicing veterinarian. Please attach the following required documents at the time of application:
- Current curriculum vitae and bibliography
- Three letters of recommendation, signed, on letterhead, describing:
- Relationship to the applicant.
- Past work/academic performance.
- Work qualities/personal conduct.
- Overall assessment of potential for success in research environment.
- Written confirmation from your financial institution to show that you will have at least 23,660 U.S. dollars of funding available to cover a one-year appointment or $910.00 bi-weekly during the duration of the appointment to meet Mayo Clinic funding guidelines.
