The cashier/receptionist is a member of the Department of Pediatric Neurosurgery team who functions under the direction guidance & supervision of the Departments Service Manager, or designee. The cashier/receptionist greets & checks in all patients reporting to the clinic in a professional & courteous manner. This position is responsible for accurate check-in, check-out where applicable, information capture & revenue collection per procedures. Must be able to work with accuracy in an environment where children maybe crying Responsible for having a general knowledge of the medical center in order to assist patients with questions & concerns. Requires extensive use of the computer.

Essential Functions:

The cashier/receptionist is a member of the Department of Pediatric Neurosurgery team who functions under the direction guidance & supervision of the Departments Service Manager, or designee. Usual assignment - Pediatric Neurosurgery clinic. May also float to two other services, Adult Neurology (Broadway Medical Office Building) & Genetics (located in Mosswood Building).

- Provide effective communication on the phone, in person and in writing with patient's parents, members, visitors, employees and providers in English and Spanish.

- Perform other duties as assigned & as necessary within job classification for smooth patient flow & service

1. File & create shadow charts

2. General filing & mailing

3. Maintain inventory of general clerical supplies/forms with par levels

4. Participate in work group/work flow & quality improvement projects

- This job has no supervisory responsibilities


Requirements

Basic Qualifications:
- Must be fluent in Spanish and pass the language exam, QBS I.
- 6 months work experience.
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Basic knowledge and use of computer and computer keyboard. Passing of a PC skills assessment.
- Ability to read and follow instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Must possess effective professional interpersonal skills able to communicate effectively on the phone, in person and in writing with patient's parents, members, visitors, employees and providers in standard American English and in Spanish.
- Professional phone etiquette.
- Ability to multi-task, organize, manage time and prioritize workflow in a complex environment.
- Knowledge of computer and computer keyboard.
- Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.
- Also refer to the detailed responsibilities outlined in Cash Handling Responsibility Agreement.
- Demonstrated history of excellent service skills as exhibited by courtesy, cooperative spirit and tact when interacting with employees, members and visitors
- Able to work as a member of a team.
- Able to sit for long periods of time, stand, use a keyboard, headset, reach, and perform fine motor tasks such as writing and filing.
- Using appropriate safety precautions and universal precautions must be able and willing to work with or around commonly used potentially hazardous substances as referenced in MSDS and bodily fluids.
- Willingness to learn new tasks and incorporate them into daily routine and willingness to work in all pediatric clinic areas.

Preferred Qualifications:
- AA Degree.
- 1 year experience in a health care setting or position as receptionist or cashier with high volume personal contact with the public.
- 10-key, medical terminology, and intermediate computer knowledge.
