Job Posting Number: 24890BR Job Posting Title: Engineer, Boiler Job Posting Category: Maintenance/Facilities Work Site: MCHS - SW MN - Mankato Department: Facilities Engineering Job Description Operates high-pressure boilers and related equipment according to state laws and safety codes to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the boiler equipment while providing patients with a comfortable environment. Possesses complete knowledge of codes, rules, policies, laws and alarm systems. Starts new boilers on the lines as needed within four hours. Blows down boilers to maintain Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) at a safe level. Tests boiler chemicals for appropriate levels and adjusts as needed as reviewed by chemical company representative monthly. Switches from gas to oil (or vice versa) and starts and operates oil pumps in a timely manner. Checks and logs water softener activity daily and regenerates as needed. Monitor building automation system for main campus and off-sites. Take responsible and reasonable action on all alarms. Performs routine maintenance work and minor repairs to ensure all equipment is operating in a safe and efficient manner. Performs cleaning, oiling and greasing of equipment twice per shift. Follows preventative maintenance procedures for greasing and changing oil in boiler air compressors each shift as logged on PM sheets when equipment is in operation. Replaces water pump seals according to operation book guidelines. Log plant readings every two hours. Performs minor repairs as assigned by Chief Engineer. Assists Chief Engineer in performing major repairs as required. Monitors and logs hot water circulating heating exchanges every four hours. Performs readings and documents accurately to substantiate efficiency of equipment. Reports any discrepancies or inadequacies to Chief Engineer. Takes and records gas and steam flow readings daily. Reads and records city and softener water meters daily. Records oil and gas usage daily. Take daily readings of facility utility consumption and analysis for potential problems. Process recyclable metals in order to keep them out of the waste stream and generate revenue for the organization. Sort scrap into types of metals as time allows between rounds. Transport reclaimed metal to recycling facility. Keep scrap processing area neat and clean. Maintains cleanliness in the areas around the boiler room and related areas. Maintains clean work area, including the areas around the boilers, the DA tank room, basement area below room, boiler feed pump room, softener rooms and bathroom. Cleans exteriors of boilers weekly. Cleans interiors of boilers annually. Performs general maintenance work to ensure the efficient operation of the department. Greases all laundry, garbage and crash carts semi-annually and notes on PM sheets. Calls in staff for snow removal in the event of a snowfall of 1? or more in a timely manner. Cleans, checks and lubes dietary fans. Basic Qualifications: Experience : One to three years electrical and/or plumbing maintenance experience preferred. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Current Class 1B Minnesota Boiler License required. License or Certification: Licensure & Certification: Minnesota Boiler License-Class 1B, 1A, Chief B, or Chief A required.
