Job Description
Coordinates and schedules all patient appointments including referrals for patient care in a timely and patient centered manner. Verifies patient`s current insurance coverage. Contacts health care providers to schedule appointments, tests, consultations, etc. Contacts patients to inform of appointments. Provides appropriate information to patient regarding specifics of referral being made, including time, location and insurance requirements. Provides necessary instructions to patient regarding procedure guidelines, special requirements, and prep instructions. Provides necessary supplies for prep as required for specific test or route prescription for supplies to pharmacy of patient's choice. Document referral details. Serve as contact point for patients if questions arise. Scheduels services accurately and efficiently in accordance with scheduling guidelines. Follows computer system and department operational procedures to gather and enter complete patient and procedure information. Coordinates special procedure needs per department scheduling guidelines. Accountable for the smooth and efficient operation of the reception/registration function, serving as the first point of contact for patients and visitors. Greets patients and visitors promptly and directs them appropriately. Prepares standard patient materials including forms, labels, brochures, surveys, etc. Works collaboratively with other staff and providers across the system to improve patient experience. Registers patients accurately, efficiently and professionally to insure integrity of patient data. Presents forms and obtains patient signatures. Ensures all staff and providers are notified of schedule changes as needed. Maintains knowledge of insurance companies` requirements for ordered care. Develops and maintains working knowledge of common insurance plans. Follows documented procedures to assure required pre-certifications and pre-authorizations are obtained in a timely manner. Provides patient charge estimates using identified systems and documented procedures. Educates patients regarding their insurance coverage and out of pocket expenses. Estimates patient obligations using identified systems. Works with patient to collect all identified patient balances due at the point of service. Follows documented procedures and refers patients to Patient Account Representatives to determine appropriate payment plan. Follows documented procedures related to processing all necessary correspondence, records, etc. to assure patient continuity of care. Copies, collates, and organizes materials as needed. Processes documents in agreed upon time frames. Files, mails or faxes documents with appropriate sources. Follows department guidelines in maintaining calendars and templates. Ensures integrity of database, checking for duplication, inaccuracies and other potential discrepancies. Serve as contact point for patients if questions arise.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience : Experience in a clinic or outpatient secretarial or business office setting preferred. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Other Qualifications:
Training: Medical terminology coursework preferred.
