Description

 
The Senior Medical Coder provides coding and coding auditing services directly to providers. This includes the analysis and translation of medical and clinical diagnoses, procedures, injuries, or illnesses into designated numerical codes.
 
***This position is office based in Nashville, TN location***
 
 
Responsibilities:
  • Receive assigned medical charts to code
  • Review medical charts electronically using a computer
  • Abstract and code Dx and documentation information
  • Research and resolution of coding projects as assigned
  • Document requested information from the medical record
  • Determine valid encounters including legibility and valid signature requirements
  • Identify valid face to face encounters
  • Perform ongoing analysis of medical record charts for the appropriate coding compliance
  • Coder is responsible for meeting daily production goal and quality goal of averaging 95% accuracy rate on a monthly basis
  • Attend conference calls as necessary to provide information and/or feedback
  • Ability to adapt to a changing work environment and implement coding guideline applications




Requirements

Required Qualifications:
  • High school education or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of professional coding experience
  • Coding certification to include the following: CPC, CCS, RHIA, and RHIT (no CPC-A, RHIT – A, etc.)
  • Ability to identify and code diagnosis codes according to CMS and ICD-9 standards
  • Anatomy knowledge
  • Extensive knowledge of coding guidelines
  • Basic computer and office suite skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use resources to increase knowledge and problem solving skills
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous facility based coding experience
  • Previous managed care experience
  • Pharmacology knowledge
  • HCC coding experience
  • Experience with HEDIS
