Two positions available
Coordinates all Medical Financial Assistance Patient Financial Services activities to support the Charity Care program of Kaiser Permanente Mid Atlantic.
Essential Functions:
- Works with Kaiser Permanente Case Management, Member Services, MARS Representatives, and PFS Manager/Director to identify and obtain all financial and related documents for Medical Financial Assistance application.
- Prepares all MFA case files for determination review.
- This includes but is not limited to credit reports, tax forms, pay stubs, bank statements, disability forms, SSA forms, pension/annuity forms, applications, etc.
- Responds to requests for additional information.
- Manages all approved/denied MFA cases once approved or denied by the Patient Financial Services Director or Management designee.
- Mails all correspondence including but not limited to approval letters, denial letters, and request for additional information.
- Runs reports via two vendors to verify credit and Federal poverty level for all patients who apply for MFA.
- Follows up and adjusts patient accounts in HealthConnect weekly to direct charity care dollars appropriately relieving the patient's accounts receivable liability as appropriate - includes writing off charges associated with MFA patient accounts.
- Manages all pending cases running reports for outstanding delinquent response cases.
- Manages case load by identifying appropriate follow up time lines and next steps.
- Initiates collection activities for negative balances accrued by Non-Plan or Out-of-Area providers.
- Reviews and responds to various forms of inquiries from Case Management, Community Benefits, Member Services, MARS Representatives, and patients.
- Answers all inquiries and correspondence including MACESS inquiries related to MFA.
- Maintains database for auditing and analysis.
- Performs other duties as directed.

Requirements |
Basic Qualifications:
- Combination of two (2) years of experience in data analysis and/or research is required.
- One (1) year of charity care experience or two (2) years in a Patient Financial Services Specialist position with interest in charity care required.
- One (1) year of patient account management experience, such as charges, payments, credits and debits analysis is required.
- One (1) year of experience in customer service required.
- Experience in Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
- Associates degree in behavioral health, health sciences or business or equivalent years of experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in time management skills and strong detail oriented skills is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) year of experience in Access is preferred.
- Experience with electronic medical record is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in behavioral health, health sciences or business preferred.
- Knowledge of Epic suite of applications, Resolute, Prelude, Cadence, EpicCare preferred.
