Description

 
Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated individual with the ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary breeding team.  The Research Assistant will report to the Cotton Breeding & Increase Manager. The successful Research Assistant will assist with all day-to-day operations of the germplasm increase program as well as assist other projects and perform other duties as required at the multifunction site. 
Incumbent will perform safety inspections and provide training of all Environmental Safety & Health procedures, regulatory and compliance protocols, business conduct protocols, and that the site and testing locations meet all ESH, compliance, and regulatory requirements.  
The Assistant may also be responsible for the management of some yield trials, observation blocks and progeny row seed increases.  
Other responsibilities include processing seed, setting up yield trials and nurseries,  planting nursery and yield trials, data collection, harvesting yield trials, ensuring that all equipment, machinery, and site assets are well maintained and in good operating condition, and maximizing the quality of data generated by the testing program. 
Overnight travel during the planting and harvest season is possible.  Several 2-3 days of travel for training and other meetings are likely during the year.


Requirements

 
Requirements:
 
  • BS in Agronomy or related field.
  • Broad knowledge of crop production and farming practices as well as farm equipment operation and repair. 
  • Ability to work extended hours during peak planting and harvesting
  • Team leadership skills including excellent organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Knowledge of statistics and experimental design.
  • Intermediate computer skills related to data acquisition, organization, and data analysis.
Preferred Skills: 
 
  • 3 years of farm experience
  • Displayed strong leadership and team building skills.
  • Displayed strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Has demonstrated proficiency in conducting agricultural research and exhibits a good working knowledge of statistics and experiment design with the recognition of its importance to product development.
