Description |
Provides technical and supervisory guidance to employees of a Claims unit to investigate, evaluate, and generally manage claims in accordance with Maryland Workers' Compensation Law and IWIF guidelines.

Requirements |
? Reviews cases for hearings to ensure that all necessary case development has taken place.
? Supervises and reviews work of claims personnel to determine appropriate development of cases and adequacy of reserves.
? Reviews cases for rehab referral, training programs and job placement activities.
? Analyzes and reviews cases in which individuals have been receiving compensation over 120 days to determine further action or cessation of benefits.
? Reviews and authorizes proposals for settlement of cases in order to bring the case to a final resolution within authority.
? Reviews awards from the Commission to confirm that the decision should be appealed.
? Establishes and maintains an open line of communication with employees, claimants, and attorneys to address and resolve problem issues.
? Coaches, trains, develops and provides direction and guidance to 5-7 claims adjusters.
? Conducts employee performance evaluation, formulates plans for development, and addresses performance issues.
? Assists claims management in various projects, including training.
? Conducts on-site visits to policyholders to review claims and services.
? Alerts Director to situations and events of potential concern.
Skills, Education, & Experience:
? A Bachelor's Degree or CPCU or AIC designation.
? Minimum of 57 years' experience in workers' compensation, including 2 years' experience in supervision, preferred.
? Strong PC skills.
? Good working knowledge of MD Workers' Comp Law.
? Ability to manage large caseload.
? Knowledge of medical terminology. Understanding of rehabilitation issues.
? Experience in calculating reserves.
? Bilingual skills preferred.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may occasionally lift up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities are required which include, close vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
