Philip Morris USA's role is to responsibly and effectively develop, manufacture and market superior branded cigarettes and smokeless products for adult tobacco consumers. We are currently seeking a highly qualified Senior Technician to join our Flavor Center Operations in Richmond, VA.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ingredient management (receipt, warehousing, inventory management, and usage reconciliation) and flavor manufacturing (compounding flavors and repacks of blended flavor and ingredient) for the customers Flavor Center Operations. This position assures proper receipt, staging for incoming evaluation, warehousing, staging for production, and flavor production/compounding.

As the Senior Technician, you must conform to appropriate cGMP practices and procedures at all times and is required to use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintaining inventory and performing reconciliations daily of materials used in production upon completion of blend. This position performs physical inventory of all ingredients to assure LIFO/FIFO compliance and performs chemical inventory on all other chemicals each year.

Specific accountabilities include:

  • Following predetermined flavor formula to compound flavors obtained from SAP. Must be able to accurately weigh and measure, and compound per the mixing instructions
  • Performing and documenting verifications on calibrated equipment used in production per the requirements of the QMS, to include scales, flow meters, thermometers, and temperature controllers. These checks are performed on a daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly basis the QMS
  • Receiving all raw materials into inventory. erifies shipping paperwork matches the material, enters the information into SAP, and generates labels for the material, and places into warehousing location using appropriate material handling equipment (forklifts), for inventory management
  • Performing shipping requirements for the Flavor Center. This includes shipping finished product, samples, and other miscellaneous items. Must be trained in DOT regulations, as this includes the shipment of hazardous and flammable material
  • Managing hazardous waste generated in the facility. This includes monitoring the waste storage area, physically accounting for each item every week. Responsible for removing these items from inventory upon disposal, and charging them to the appropriate cost center. RCRA training required
  • Coordinating the sampling of ingredients for other facilities/operations. This involves staging the materials, notifying QA lab personnel, and adjusting inventory accordingly. The inventory adjustment includes removing specified amount of each ingredient from inventory, monitoring the inventory electronically, and charging material usage to the appropriate facility/operation



Requirements

Qualifications include:

  • Associate's degree in a Physical Science, Engineering or Biology is preferred. A High School Degree with chemistry and mathematics courses or equivalent is required. Knowledge of the metric system is required
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with flavor manufacturing or analytical laboratory methodology is desired
  • Knowledge of sanitary equipment design and operation, and good manufacturing practices (cGMP) is desired
  • Analytical and mechanical problem solving skills, basic chemistry and general process knowledge
  • Ability to apply mathematical skills/concepts, and perform conversions
  • Basic understanding of laboratory concepts and how they relate to the manufacturing operations
  • Willingness to learn SAP R3 in order to perform job duties as required, proficient in Word, EXCEL, and Outlook, and process control systems such as PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human Machine Interfaces) used in production
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills; develops job, quality and safety procedures
