Independently provides direct patient care in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders affecting the foot and ankle. Administers medical and surgical treatment/procedures. Essential Functions: - Conducts medical diagnosis and evaluation of foot pathologies based on patient history, radiographs, lab tests, physical examination, special techniques (e.g., aspiration or biopsy) and special tests such as ordering of vascular Doppler studies or nerve conduction tests - Performs treatment of foot and ankle pathologies by prescribing medication, administering injection therapy (e.g., cortisone injections, trigger point injections, injections of small and intermediate joints, injection of anesthetic agents for diagnostic and therapeutic reasons in peripheral nerves), prescribing physical therapy, cast immobilization, custom orthotics, orthopedic shoes prosthetics, braces and pediatric foot care (i.e., wound debridement) - Completes surgical treatment of foot and ankle pathologies which involves multiple surgical procedures of skin, soft tissue and bone as outlined by the Medical Board of California, Board of Podiatric Medicine - Diagnoses and treats special foot problems such as Diabetic Foot (which involves patient education of diabetic foot care, diabetic foot ulcerations and infections) and Arthritic Foot conditions (which involves conservative treatment for abnormal foot deformities and surgical correction of grossly abnormal foot deformities) - Performs surgical procedures which may require inpatient stay - Completes preoperative evaluation, admission history, operative reports, progress notes, discharge summaries, daily ward rounds, etc
