Soybean Field Assistant

Monsanto Canada is a leading provider of technology-based solutions and agricultural products that improve farm productivity. Our research facility in Guelph, Ontario, is seeking an innovative and team-oriented individual to join their Soybean Research team as a Soybean Field Assistant(12 month contract).  

This is a great opportunity to get some hands on industry experience in a soybean research program and work with experienced and talented research scientists focused on delivering improved Soybean varieties to the market.

Selected individual could assist the Soybean Research Program with the following:

• Operations related to field trials such as data collection, crossing, collecting leaf tissue samples, plot maintenance and manual or combine harvest of soybean research plots
• Threshing, seed quality evaluation and seed cleaning
• Seed preparation for planting and winter nurseries
• Participate in all Safety training and follow Safety policies
• Participate in ISO training and assist team to maintain Quality Standards
• Activities supporting Canadian Variety Registration process including summarizing data, preparing applications, submitting lab samples and attending meetings
• Off site travel is possible

• Highly organized and detail oriented
• Ability to work outdoors in various environmental conditions
• Ability to work extended hours as required
• Ability to work effectively with teams or independently
• Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize tasks
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal
• Computer Experience(Microsoft Word and Excel)

Desired Skills/Experience:

• BS Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy or related field
• Field Research experience
• Knowledge of crop production
• Functional knowledge in agriculture including understanding of farm practices, equipment operation, maintenance and repair
• AZ, A or D license would be considered an asset
