Description

Monsanto’s WestBred wheat breeding program develops high quality wheat varieties all major market classes in the United States. This exceptional team utilizes state-of-the-art breeding methodologies and technologies to enhance performance, quality and disease resistance. We are currently seeking a highly motivated individual to manage our wheat dihaploid program. The Wheat Dihaploid Scientist functions as the primary investigator and operations manager of a wheat dihaploid production pipeline. As the lead, the successful candidate will assist management in determining realistic and aggressive output targets. Based on these targets, the Dihaploid Scientist will be responsible for managing resources, protocols and people to successfully achieve these annual production and delivery goals within given budget guidance. He/she will interact with Monsanto wheat breeding programs to plan and coordinate germplasm intake and dihaploid delivery. Working with enterprise data systems, Dihaploid Scientist will design, implement, monitor and enforce relevant protocol metrics to ensure target product delivery. The successful candidate must demonstrate successes in improving production line efficiencies using a biological system and demonstrate a talent for delivering continuous cost savings and improved output.

The Dihaploid Scientist will be responsible for the development and retention of personnel, budget management, procurement, implementation and compliance with company policies and maintenance of company assets. He/She will be responsible for conducting all activities in compliance with a safe workplace. The successful candidate will be expected to stay abreast of dihaploid technology advancement and implement and improve techniques where applicable.

 

Responsibilities:
·         Maintain and improve existing wheat embryo rescue dihaploid production protocols and best practices
·         Develop, implement and achieve key performance indicators and production metrics.
·         Manage all day-to-day operations, project budgets and forecasts  and compliance with all company policies.
·         Comply with Monsanto ESH policies to ensure safe operations
·         Recruit, train, develop, and retain research support personnel
·         Analyze, interpret and report on all aspects of dihaploid production results for both ‘in vivo’ and ‘in vitro’ protocols
·         Accurately track and maintain up-to-date record keeping using company enterprise system
·         Establish realistic and aggressive project deliverables
·         Lead continuous improvement projects directed toward decreasing costs, increasing capacity and improving efficiencies.
·         Develop external and internal relationships with experts in applicable sciences to identify opportunities to incorporate state-of-the art technology to improve production


Requirements

  • PhD in plant sciences or related field
  • 5+ years experience in dihaploid production setting preferred
  • Experience with embryo rescue dihaploid production preferred
  • Experience in asceptic tissue culture techniques and greenhouse and growth chamber plant production
  • Experience in the successful operation of a production setting with defined goals and deliverables
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in successful process improvement
  • Six Sigma or Lean process improvement training preferred
