Position Description:


United Health Care Military and Veterans is currently seeking Medical Coding Specialists. In these roles, you will be is responsible to support the DRG Validation Process in accordance with the Tricare Operations Manual. This includes the analysis and translation of medical and clinical diagnoses, procedures, injuries, or illnesses into designated numerical codes.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The Coding Specialist accurately determines CPT and ICD-9 codes for all procedures/diagnoses  to support our DRG Validation process in accordance with the Tricare Operations Manual and Tricare Policy Manual. 
  • S/he ensures that all coding assignments are accurate according to coding policies and the documentation provided in the medical chart components.  The medical record components may include the following: transcribed records, nursing notes and flow sheets, clinical records, face sheets, and test results as appropriate.
  • The Coding Specialist maintains thorough knowledge of coding policies and procedures, medical terminology/technology, and any computer software
  • S/he is responsible for producing various monthly reports and may provide documentation feedback to facilities under the direction of the Manager of Clinical Adherence and Appeals and VP of Utilization Management.




Requirements

Requirements:

  • HS Diploma or GED
  • Must be a certified coder (i.e. RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, etc)
  • 1+ year of CPT and ICD-9 coding experience
  • 1+ year of Production coding experience
  • Familiarity with computer and Windows PC applications, which includes the ability to learn new and complex computer system application
  • Capable of working in a complex, fast paced, dynamic environment that involves multiple customer types, products and evolving systems
  • United States Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain favorable adjudication following submission of Department of Defense form SF86 NAC form SF86

Assets:

  • Inpatient DRG coding experience
  • Previous TRICARE experience
  • Military Service
  • Knowledge of or experience with Rightfax would be helpful
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Hospital Coding experience

 

As a requirement of UnitedHealth Group’s contract with the Department of Defense, this position requires U.S. citizenship and proof of favorable adjudication following submission of Department of Defense form SF86 http://www.opm.gov/forms/pdf_fill/sf86.pdf, (the National Agency Check or “NACâ€).  Successful completion of the NAC process is a requirement for continued employment in this role.  NAC processing will be initiated by our TRICARE Security Officer post-offer, and can take 3-6 months for a final decision communication from the Department of Defense.  Candidates will be allowed to begin employment with UnitedHealth Group in this role based on an interim clearance, and final results will be communicated as they are received.  Failure to obtain final NAC approval will result in termination from this role.
