Position Summary:


The Local Solutions Center Engineering Manager oversees all the Local Solution Center engineering teams throughout all the locations in the United States as well as provides leadership to the Central engineering team.  The individual will be responsible for the coordination of engineering activities, processes, and standards within all of the United States. He/She supports all delivery services activities within the Region, facilitates the smooth and consistent execution of engineering and project management processes, works with all the regional engineering leads, proposal and delivery teams to support the business and operation managers in execution strategies. This manager plans, organizes and directs the Central engineering team to meet business objectives for solutions design and development. Responsible for overall revenue and gross margin targets, customer satisfaction index targets and other business objectives. He/she is responsible for the schedule, cost effective and high quality delivery of engineering solutions. Additionally, the role implements systems projects and orders to meet the highest professional standards within schedule and cost plans, while assuring overall customer satisfaction. The engineering manager requires team resource planning such as assigning direct reports to projects, assessing staffing levels and utilization among other duties.  This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Functional


  • Oversees customer's requirements and the development of system solution and its applicable control configuration/architecture


  • Responsible for overall project engineering including application engineering, hardware and software and factory testing


  • Coordinates resources between different teams and projects


  • Develops and executes industry / application team plan


  • Actively contributes to the development of business team strategic plan


  • Requires extensive knowledge of customer applications to support the engineering team and interact with clients.  


Leadership


  • Sets forth directives for increasing the productivity of systems design to maintain competitive engineering costs and lead-times


  • Leads technical design and cost reviews of engineering functions within projects


  • Takes ownership for results and drives issues toward resolution


  • Ensures conformance of all team activities to proper safety standards 


Interpersonal


  • Responsible for resource planning like project team assignment, utilization and contract labor


  • Oversees the coordination of resources


  • Establishes project schedules, monitoring status and reporting progress


  • Works with direct reports to address training gaps and development


  • Fosters open communication with team members to promote positive work environment 


Business


  • Demonstrates business acumen with the ability to lead teams


  • Responsible for all performance aspects related to assigned business segment


  • Supports and helps implement business wide strategies


  • Builds partnerships with key customers and responsible for results of customer satisfaction surveys for assigned business segment. 



Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in an Engineering discipline
  • Requires a minimum of 5+ years of people management experience
  • Experience managing teams of 8 or more
     
  • Experience managing budgets
     
  • Experience managing business operations and business plans
     
  • 5+ years experience with control systems applications

Desired Qualifications:


  • Proven success at simultaneously managing multiple complex customer projects


  • Extensive experience with direct customer contact and suppliers


  • Prior project management, engineering management, proposal and/or application engineering experience.


  • Knowledge of Allen-Bradley Powerflex drives, and PLC's.  Knowledge of codes and standards applicable to industrial control systems including the NEC, NFPA79 and UL508A


  • PMP or PE certifications


  • Experience with NEWS, IFS, and SAP
