Description



Position Summary:


Key contributor of the product development team within the motion control drives business. Create designs and track the functional needs of programs relative to product cost, performance, and timing. May lead functional portion of a project through its entire design cycle. Accountable to meet product requirements and design specifications. Must be able to evaluate and develop various designs and manufacturing methods to optimize product functionality. Additional responsibilities include supervising major tooling orders and any required modifications of said tooling.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Must have a thorough working understanding of injection-molded thermoplastics, aluminum extrusions, castings and sheet-metal manufacturing methods.


  • Will also possess a broad understanding of numerous other piece-part fabrication techniques that can be applied towards development activities.


  • Must be familiar with power conversion and AC drives products.


  • Be capable of understanding electromechanical theory, read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings as it applies to project requirements.


  • Must be familiar with CAD/CAE engineering environments including the requirements of ECN, PDM and MRP systems. Must have demonstrated proficiency using ProEngineer solid modeling software.


  • Must be able to function effectively in a team environment and have the ability to communicate at a technical level.


  • Must be able to direct efforts of others to complete job assignments.


  • Must understand and practice laboratory procedures for the safe and efficient use of electronic instrumentation, electrical power, rotating electrical machinery, hand tools, power tools, model shop machinery and general laboratory cleanliness.


  • Must have familiarity with the following standards and how they apply to electronic packaging of products. UL, CSA and CE standards

  • Proven beyond education.


  • Is able to execute high quality and innovative piece parts and assemblies.


  • Is capable of leading functional portions of drive programs to completion and meeting of project objectives.


Leadership:


  • Normally is self-directed and may oversee the work of designers or contractors.


  • Must be capable of making basic project decisions with minimal input.


  • May direct efforts of one to five designers and/or technicians. Interpersonal:


  • Works in team environment and must interface with Manufacturing, Quality, Marketing, Lab Technicians and outside vendors.


Business:


  • Must posses a good working knowledge of the product and business needs. Must also develop knowledge of customer requirements and competitors offerings.


  • Ensures thorough familiarity with company policies and procedures.


  • Appropriately applies policies and procedures in compliance with government laws. Policies and procedures include, but not limited to: Standards of Business Conduct, Intellectual Property, Control Environment, Information Protection, ISO 9000 & 14000, government regulations (e.g. health, safety, quality and environmental), and functional policies published on the Rockwell Automation Information Network



Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or an Associates degree in related field and minimum 10 years experience in electromechanical design


  • Have a thorough working knowledge of mechanical product development and possess a strong understanding of manufacturing needs.


  • Possess an understanding of ProE or similar CAD package to model plastic, cast and sheet-metal parts and assemblies, as well as technical aptitude for performing engineering calculations, tests and required experimenting to solve complex electromechanical problems involved with the operation of the product.


  • Must have min. of 2 years of ProE or similar CAD/CAE design experience. Complex net shapes (moldings and castings) are essential.


  • Will have general understanding of heat transfer and electromechanical theory.
