Position Summary:

Provide Electro-magnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing and consultation services during new product development and certification to various product groups.  Requires specific and detailed knowledge of EN 55011, EN 61000 and CE Mark testing requirements.  Responsible for the specification and design of test setups, instrumentation, data analysis and interpretation, documentation, facility operation and maintenance.  Provide recommendations and consulting services to Development Engineering on all aspects of EMC testing compliance and design.

  • Provide EN 55011, EN 61000 and CE Mark expertise in the areas of compliance testing and product design.  Stay abreast of changes in technology and compliance standards.

  • Develop and implement Development Engineering plans for new product development in the area of EMC certification and compliance testing.

  • Provide recommendations to Development Engineering on proper EMC design during product development to minimize cost and cycle time.

  • Develop and implement new instrumentation and test setups, maintain and upgrade existing systems.

  • Continuously look for ways to improve efficiency and methodology in laboratory systems and procedures.

  • Ensure accuracy and repeatability of EMC test results through facility calibrations and inter-laboratory comparisons.

  • Act as Technical manager for the laboratory to ensure technical aspects of ISO 17025 are met and to maintain accreditations

  • Where applicable (i.e. laboratory staff who generate, handle or dispose of hazardous or potentially hazardous waste(s) and laboratory staff who work near, around or have the potential to handle or come into contact with hazardous waste(s)), laboratory staff will appropriately handle, segregate and dispose of all hazardous wastes and potentially hazardous wastes.  Hazardous waste duties will be performed in accordance with federal and state regulations, as well as Rockwell Automation Policies and Procedures.  Hazardous wastes will be handled by staff only after appropriate training has been completed.    


  • Respond to customer quality issues by investigating and coordinating corrective action.

  • Identifies and implements testing and changes to testing that is required to take RA to a higher level, beyond       minimal compliance.

  • Pursues training or education as required to improve capabilities of the lab 


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills needed to interact with various levels of the organization.

  • Works well as an individual contributor and as part of a team.

  • Deals well with customers from various locations within and outside of RA.

  • Is comfortable with many types of people at various levels of authority. 


  • Identifies opportunities or future needs for the company in the areas of EMC compliance.

  • Understands the process of selling services and filling lab capacity while addressing company priorities and customer needs.

  • Understands budgeting and costing of services.Ensures thorough familiarity with company policies and procedures. Appropriately applies policies and procedures in compliance with government laws.  Policies and procedures include, but not limited to: Standards of Business Conduct, Intellectual Property, Control Environment, Information Protection, ISO 9000 & 14000, government regulations (e.g. health, safety, quality and environmental), and functional policies published on the Rockwell Automation Information Network.

Minimum Qualifications:

B. S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field with knowledge in the application of basic engineering principles, theories, and techniques.  iNARTE EMC Engineer Certification strongly desired.  
Minimum of five years working in a Test or Design Engineering function performing RF, EMI, EMC, or similar types of evaluation or compliance testing.
