Position Summary:


Position Summary:
This is a Senior Mechanical Engineering position that will participate as a member of cross-functional R&D teams which develop leading edge products for use in industrial environments. This involves supporting the design of industrial electrical connectors, optical/inductive sensors, mechanical switches or the design of sealed enclosures containing various electronic, mechanical, or optical devices.

Responsibilities:


  • Demonstrate mature skills and proven track record in design and development, working in a cross-functional product development team.


  • Responsible for design and development work on new and existing products and practical solutions to complex problems.


  • Provide technical and administrative mentorship to less senior engineers.


  • Invent, innovate or otherwise use initiative and ingenuity to create new product concepts or product improvement concepts so that Rockwell Automation will have proprietary technical advantage over the competition.


  • Operate with significant independent discretion on unreviewed actions or decisions based on objectives established by the Director of Engineering but being responsible to communicate the expected results or deviation from the plan or schedule to the responsible manager.


  • Fully knowledgeable in manufacturing methods, costs, capabilities and limitations for the practical, effective and low costs design of products.


  • Ability to utilize analytical and mathematical skills appropriate to responsibilities (DFSS, DFMEA, DFA).


  • Proficiency in the use of a 3D Solid Modeling CAD system (preferably Pro/E (Creo) or SolidWorks), ANSYS, and version control software.


  • Ability to learn and to increase and update knowledge and methods affecting area of responsibility.


  • Ability to bring product design from conception to production release working with a cross-functional team using a stage-gate development process.


  • Ability to work seamlessly with suppliers, overseas manufacturing plants, and remote engineering resources.


  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills and works well within a team environment.


  • Good communication and time management skills.


  • Self-starter and has a desire and willingness to learn quickly.


  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.



Minimum Qualifications:


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering or BS in a scientific discipline.
  • 5+ years in NPI product development.
  • Experience designing complex cast metal or injection molded components.
  • Experience designing products for use in harsh industrial environments which are subject to a range of temperatures, shock & vibration, chemical exposure, and ingress protection


Desired Qualifications

  • Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with FEA, DFA, DFM.
  • Familiarity with SAP or other enterprise software.
  • Demonstrated experience with multi-action tooling fabrication techniques to support complex plastic injection molded or die cast components is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with common manufacturing and assembly processes such as ultrasonic welding, adhesives (and other sealing operations), heat staking, PCB assembly, etc.
