Position Summary:


Provide the strategic vision and global leadership to Rockwell Automation's Chemistry & Materials Engineering teams. Develop, document and drive the global business strategy for C&ME that supports success of RA's Business Unit's technical/product roadmaps, NPI/Continuation projects as well as RA's Strategic Framework goals.  Drive continuous improvement of common global processes and ensure proactive, scalable, cost effective, best in class C&ME functional support. Anticipate and plan for changes in the C&ME landscape to meet product requirements and avoid any significant impacts to planned RA revenue streams. Responsible for strategic and technical development of personnel. Ensure team develops and documents tools to manage data assuring accurate, maintainable, and auditable information.

Responsible for all aspects of this technical organization in the evaluation and application of materials science, as it relates to manufacturing and development of Rockwell Automation's products and/or components. This includes processing, product failure analysis and environmental concerns related to the manufacture as well as to the end-use, of RA/AB products.  This organization is recognized as a primary source of technical expertise in the utilization and effective application of modern analytical instrumentation as it relates to RA/AB products and processes. This organization is responsible for investigating new methodologies, materials and analytical instrumentation that may provide technical/financial advantages to RA/AB products and processes. Proactively works with BU Development, Manufacturing, Quality and the Strategic Sourcing Organization among others to establish short and long range goals for CM&E.


  • Anticipates needs for change and revises CM&E Business Strategy.  Works with and through others to implement change. Looks for synergies/partnerships that improve customer value within PQS, ES & OES.


  • Leverages the technical resources and analytical instrumentation in RA/AB-MKE for all of RA.


  • Interfaces with staff of the Rockwell Scientific Company (a.k.a., Teledyne) as required.


  • Provides a scalable partner base and leverages the technical resources of RA's suppliers to support BU's.


  • Applies integrated knowledge of RA to help increase quality, productivity, and cost effectiveness of processes that span functional area.  


  • Responsible for ongoing support to Rockwell Automation's OES Organization involving manufacturing and material process issues (i.e., cleaning, new materials, and quality control).


  • Provides resource information on environmental and safety issues, as they relate to manufacturing processes.


  • Develop team to be able to resolve technical problems involving materials, processing and end-use applications, particularly as they relate to product development and field return issues.


  • Oversight for providing training to technical and managerial personnel involved with the selection, use, and assembly of various materials.


  • Oversight to insure the maintenance of all licenses and procedures associated with the NRC guidelines related to the operation of the radiation equipment.  


  • Partners with customers and coordinates efforts to resolve complex problems that have broad and long-term implications, responds with urgency to unique requests and delivers timely, cost-effective quality solutions. Approaches problem solving with a global perspective.


  • Establishes business metrics to drive proper behaviors towards strategic and tactical goals.


  • Contributes to organizational performance through PADR goals tied to RA's Strategic Framework and timely implementation of projects that produce business value



Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or technical discipline.
     
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct people management experience.
     
  • Proven experience with customer facing projects/leadership
     
  • Product related experience/leadership with plastics, metals, coatings.
     
  • Minimum travel - 25% (1-2 international trips per year)
 
  • PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

     
  • Masters in Materials Science / Materials Engineering desired.
     
  • Proven Experience leading strategic change.
     
  • Experience working with (or leading) a Lab environment.
     
  • Global project leadership experience.
     
  • Product development and root cause analysis experience.
     
  • Budget management experience.
