About the Opportunity
The Mechanical Engineer Coop, under direction of the engineering staff, supports mechanical engineering in a prototype-manufacturing environment. Primary responsibilities include both engineering lab and production hands-on assembly and test support as well as mechanical design.

Responsibilities


  • Meet deadlines in a prototype-manufacturing environment working independently


  • Under direction of engineering staff: Develops and tests machinery and equipment, applying knowledge of mechanical technology


  • Under direction of engineering staff: Using CAD, designs, fabricates and assembles new or modified mechanical and electrical components, assemblies, and fixtures for manufacturing, testing, & prototyping.


  • Reviews project instructions and drawings to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions.



Minimum Qualifications:


Minimum Requirements


  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science: Mechanical Engineering course of study at an accredited university or college


  • Attention to detail, disciplined work ethic, and strong organizational skills are a must

  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude: familiar with hand tools such as wrenches, cutters, crimpers, multimeters etc. 
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.


Other Experience, Skills, and Abilities of Interest


  • Ability to safely and accurately use a milling machine, lathe, and drill press


  • CAD, preferably SolidWorks, experience


  • Proficiency creating and reviewing detail drawings with GD&T


  • Design for Manufacture and Assembly proficiency


  • Experience conducting Failure Analysis and defining Corrective Actions


  • Permanent magnet motor mechanical design and manufacturing: coil winding, permanent magnet array assembly, lamination design, electronics packaging


  • Six-month coop duration preferred
