Position Description

This Associate will support the Risks & Markets department in oversight of the commercial activities and associated risks for North American operations. This position works with all areas of the organization to analyze and explain short term market conditions and dynamics and to predict one to three year future conditions in markets focusing on instruments in which EDPR is active such as gas futures, power forwards, and real time and day ahead power and financial transmission rights. The focus of this role is to offer a strategic and competitive advantage in market analysis in the one to three year time horizon. You will develop and manage materials for key meetings and other events with senior level personnel including the CEO & CFO, Regional Executive Vice Presidents, and Directors of Global Risk & Market Operations.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Fundamental market analysis - Understand key market drivers and their impact on our business as a basis for making decisions about commercial transactions and risk policy.
  • Pricing and valuation - Independently develop forward price curves and fair valuation models for traded commodities incorporating both fundamental and price analytic factors for use in support of daily commercial transactions and risk assessment as well as in internal strategic planning processes. Provide fair value assessments to support transactions of forwards, options and other products. Perform feasibility studies, scenario analysis and economic analysis as directed by management.
  • Market Outlook - Participate in the preparation of the quarterly update of market fundamentals and commercial activity.
  • Risk Committee - Participate in the preparation of the monthly presentation for the Risk Committee with CEO, CFO and COOs. Attendance and presentation of main analysis done in the North American Platform.
  • New investments analysis - Support M&A team to build a worst case scenario in new investments. Analyze potential risks in new investments (market risk, counterparty credit risk, etc) and recommend mitigation strategies. Calculate Risk Adjusted Returns considering counterparty credit risk.
  • Hedging recommendations - Provide energy and basis hedging recommendations in the US dependent on market development. Specific analysis of cross-commodity hedging in different markets.
  • ST Trading Policy - Support Market Ops Team in the implementation of the Short Term Trading Policy (V@R calculation, etc) and follow up of risk position.
  • Risk reporting compliance - Manage with other Departments (Market Ops, Finance) regulatory requirements on derivatives reporting (Dodd-Frank)
  • On-demand strategic analysis

    Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Must be bilingual in English/Spanish
  • Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, Math, Statistics or Economics (an advanced degree is a plus)
  • Experience in fundamental analysis is preferred
  • 2-5 years of related professional experience
  • Experience in strategic analysis (management consulting, etc.) would be a plus
