Description

he Equal Opportunity Officer is the advanced or lead level of work administering equal employment opportunity and equal access compliance programs. The employee is either a specialist in charge of one or more significant components of an equal opportunity program(s) or trains and assigns, evaluates and approves the work of lower level equal opportunity officers in implementing an equal opportunity program(s).  Duties include, but are not limited to: investigating and recommending solutions to employment discrimination complaints; planning, developing, and conducting training for directors, managers and agency staff in areas of equal employment opportunity and equal access programs; monitoring agency compliance of federal and state equal opportunity laws, regulations, codes and policies; monitoring Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) participation on Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) contracts in accordance with procedures defined in the MDOT manual; other duties as assigned.  

The current vacancy exists at the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) in Glen Burnie, MD (Anne Arundel County).  The eligible list produced from this recruitment may be utilized to fill similar Equal Opportunity Officer Lead/Advanced, (DOT Executive Assistant I) vacancies within MDOT. 



Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:  A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
 
Experience:  Four years of experience implementing an equal opportunity program or equal access compliance program; or ensuring adherence to fair practice standards.    

Notes: 
1.  Additional experience directly related to protected groups and their problems in the areas of compliance with civil rights statutes or community and human relations; or monitoring contracts and investigating regulated activities to ensure compliance may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required four year degree.

2.  Thirty graduate credit hours from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
 

Licenses & Certifications

Candidates appointed to positions in these classifications may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
