Job Description


POSITION SUMMARY:  Bilingual Mental Health Therapist for Spanish specialty outpatient clinic (El Centro de las Familias) serving individuals and families age 5 through adult.  Spanish and English language required. Licensure preferred, not required.  CAC III/LAC also preferred.  Working primarily in a clinic, office or similar setting, provide direct mental health clinical assessment, treatment, and counseling to the severe and persistent mentally ill. Includes intake, some case management, and group and individual therapies.


Spanish Language differential: $2.50/hr. (language testing required)


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide psychological evaluations/problem identification, crisis interventions, and individual, group, and/or family therapy to assigned consumers.
  • Provide some case management and coordination services to consumers as needed.
  • Develop treatment plans; monitor treatment progress and follow-up at disposition times.
  • Assist consumers with psychological development, social development, and rehabilitation.
  • Communicate with and help coordinate consumer's use of other Organization programs and outside community resources.
  • Working with psychiatrists, nurses, and other professionals, coordinate medication/medicinal needs of consumers with medical sources.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records consistent with Organization standards.
  • Participate in team/MHCD meetings, in-services, and supervisory sessions as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION:  Master's Degree in psychology, counseling, social work or related field.


EXPERIENCE:    Minimum one year working in the mental health field.  LPC, LCSW, LMFT Licensure preferred, not required.  CACIII/LAC also preferred but not required.


SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge of methods of psychotherapy.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to assess crisis situations and intervene appropriately.
  • Familiarity with the DSM 5 and diagnostic techniques.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible and on-call hours which may be required.
  • Ability to work independently, flexibly, and quickly adapt to changing situations.
  • Ability to give, receive and analyze information, formulate work plans, prepare written materials and articulate goals and action plans.
  • Must understand people from all walks of life and be able to communicate effectively with them.
  • Knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed care principles/practices.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists with program supervision of students/volunteers as determined appropriate.


MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:  Computers, calculators, fax machines, copiers, telephone and a variety of other office/clerical equipment.


TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. May require lifting up to 50 pounds.   Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, the telephone and other office and/or clinical equipment.


WORKING CONDITIONS:  May require occasional evening or weekend hours.
