Researches, plans, organizes, and assists needed analysis with SIU Investigators to identify the possibility of fraudulent/ abusive activities or transactions, including but not limited to using fraud/ abuse referrals from other departments, trend reports, and programs designed to identify possible fraud trends, etc.



Obtains information as needed to determine if a full investigation must be performed; logs all information into the Special Investigative Unit (SIU) case management system; maintains confidential, effective, and accurate online records, databases, or filing systems that provide a quick-reference source for information on fraud investigations, policies, procedures and other department activity

Tracks the progress of the investigation, uses the information obtained from the final investigation to calculate savings and/ or restitution amount; prepares correspondence for final review; coordinates with other business units as needed

Acts as the department's customer contact, answering routine questions about department services, procedures, and policies if needed or refers questions to appropriate team members.

Coordinates details associated with ongoing investigations assisting with confidential matters and performing research for special projects as assigned

Establishes and maintains effective data in the systems, and chronological and specialized project reference files to meet current reporting needs and future enhancements; performs research and analysis to provide the business unit with timely, accurate, and meaningful information

Responsible for accurate reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Works with SIU Investigators and SIU management to develop fraud awareness among employees

Participates in educational opportunities to enhance the effectiveness in fraud/ abuse investigations

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships within the department and throughout the organization

Performs other duties as required


Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact with internal and external customers

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the insurance industry

Previous SIU experience is strongly preferred

Knowledge of medical terminology and experience with claim processing and imaging systems strongly preferred

Solid working knowledge of Word, Excel and Access

Basic understanding of reporting principles and practices such as DOI, law enforcement, and other regulatory agency inquiries

Knowledge and experience with general web based data retrieval systems (i.e. Lexis/ Nexis, ISO Claims Search, etc.)




High School/ GED required, Bachelor's Degree preferred
