Gather information and input information in 42A, 42B, I-130, I-485, I-864, I-765, I-918, I-192, I-130, I-821 and I-821D and other immigration applications as appropriate;
Translate legal documents/birth certificates and other documents from English to Spanish and Spanish to English;
Research and prepare memorandums on legal issues that arise in various cases attorneys handle;
Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls in both Spanish and English; responds to inquires on a variety of matters such as the status of pending cases, upcoming court dates.
Assist legal secretary/receptionist with scheduling and arranging meetings;
Operates keyboard equipment such as personal computer to docket cases, process information, records notices of hearings and upcoming court dates, correspondence, reports and other data;
Operates keyboard equipment to produce legal documents such as entry of appearances, discovery requests, court waivers, notice to appear for immigration court (G-28, E-28);
Proofreads and corrects prepared materials for correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, format, syntax and content;
Inputs, retrieves, updates and deletes information using computerized databases.
Logs, dockets upcoming court dates and hearing dates in calendar and advises attorney of upcoming court dates.
Composes routine letters and memorandums
Reviews legal documents to ensure they are in proper format and contain all necessary portions or related documents for court acceptance; files legal documents with proper courts.
Prepares and assembles materials, documents and exhibits for meetings, court appearances and hearings.
Determines need for supplies
Operates standard office equipment such as calculators, copy machines and facsimile machines, etc.
Performs related work as assigned.
Maintains calendars for Attorney to ensure no scheduling conflicts and to inform attorneys of court imposed deadlines.
Utilizes multiples platforms to manage cases, track work performance and maintain communication with attorney and other legal personnel. To include but not limited to: E-immigration, Google Chat and Google Voice


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of office practices, procedures, machines and equipment;
Knowledge of correct English and Spanish language usage, spelling, punctuation and legal terminology;
Knowledge of the organization and composition of business letters, minutes, reports and numerical and tabular materials.
Knowledge of the techniques of receiving callers, making appointments, giving information and explaining instructions, directions and guidelines.
Skilled typing ability and knowledge of personal computers, hardware, software and related applications and systems.
Ability to follow instructions
Ability to apply instructions and/or guidelines as appropriate in the performance of management support activities.
Ability to maintain composure during stressful situations occurring as a result of workloads and/or deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to select and apply references such as dictionaries, English usage manuals, Spanish usage manuals, legal references, procedures manuals, EOIR Immigration Court Practice Manual and computer guides.
Ability to use diplomacy and discretion in giving out information and in referring and directing callers and visitors.
Ability to skillfully operate word processing equipment and/or personal computers.
Ability to transcribe documents from written oral or computer generated formats.
Ability to interpret instructions and guidelines in order to make decisions and take necessary actions.
Ability to determine work priorities.
Ability to multitask independently and demonstrate sound judgment
Ability to pay strong attention to detail and timing as well as excellence in execution
Ability to reflect and demonstrate integrity, customer-centered, accountability, respect and excellence
Knowledge of Westlaw to do legal research;

Working Conditions:

Fast paced, must be willing to work with deadlines and capable of multi-task work. Self initiative is key to success at the firm and the ability to prioritize work based on deadlines is key.

Salary is commensurate with experience and education level.
