Bilingual Domestic and Sexual Violence Counselor

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours/week. Occasional evenings required.
Job Summary: Responsible for provision of trauma-informed counseling services to victims/survivors of domestic and sexual violence and human trafficking in Spanish and English. Plan, coordinate, and implement outreach efforts to the Latino community to increase awareness of DASI services.
Provide trauma-informed services to victims/survivors of domestic and sexual violence and human trafficking in a non judgmental manner using an empowerment framework.
Assist victims/survivors with risk assessment and safety planning.
Provide supportive counseling and crisis intervention, as well as case management when needed.
Provide support for goal setting/service plans.
Facilitate weekly support groups as needed.
Provide victims/survivors with appropriate referrals in the community.
Provide victims/survivors with educational information on the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence in person and on hotline calls.
Advocate on victims'/survivors' behalf with other social service agencies when appropriate.
Share on-call for Sexual Assault Response Team (SART).
Participate in specialized training to become certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and provide this therapy to a minimum of three children/parents per year.
Community Outreach
Develop and implement plan for outreach to Latino community encompassing in-person presentations, media, collaboration with other staff, and networking in the community
Serve on appropriate committees; Represent DASI to the community and articulate the agency's policies and procedures
Assist with and support translation of community education materials and social media


Fluent in Spanish and Master's Degree in Social Work or Counseling required. Counseling/case management experience and DVS preferred.
Open to a feminist analysis of domestic and sexual violence and of the economic, social and emotional barriers encountered by survivors.
Excellent presentation, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
Commitment to cultural competency required.
Completion of 80 hour domestic violence and sexual assault intervention course within six months of hire.
Computer literacy required (Word, Excel, and Internet).
Valid NJ Driver's License, proof of current insurance, and reliable vehicle available during work hours. Use of agency van required at times.
