We are seeking an energetic Food Operations Manager 3 to support Resident Dining, Catering and Retail Operations at North Carolina A&T University located in desirable Greensboro, NC! North Carolina A&T State University is the largest HBCU in the nation. The University has a total student population of just over 13,000 students with 4200 Resident Students and 1400 Commuters on meal plans. Sodexo has been at North Carolina A&T State Universty since 1999 and has been extremely succesful in maintaining and growing the Dining portfolio on campus. Our dining portfolio consists of: 1 Residential Dining Facility-serving over 11k meals/week, Faculty Staff Dining Room, Starbucks, Simply to Go, McAlisters Deli and 2 satellite grab and go locations. The location has an approxmiate catering revenue of $1.5 million and is experiencing continued growth. A new Student Center opened in Oct. 2018 and has extended the portfolio to include an additional residential dining restaurant as well as National brands and in house created dining concepts. The Operations Manager will report to the Resident District Manager and lead the charge for all campus operations, will have oversight for 9 Managers and will manage with impeccable customer service and integrity. The Operations Manager will be responsible for the culinary and production, dining by design operating standards, retail brand standards, executive level catering standards, safety and sanitation, 100% operations excellence as well as mastering client initiatives, implementing Sodexo systems and enhancing operational outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • High-volume campus/university food operations management experience;
  • Experience training and leading a talented and diverse team of salaried managers and hourly staff;
  • Experience with multi-unit and services management;
  • Experience driving sales and controlling costs;
  • Experience with ordering and inventory;
  • Experience with food and physical safety programs, and Board of Health requirements;
  • Experience with heavy volume cash handling;
  • Experience with service standards, brands and customer service;
  • Experience handling human resources and upholding Sodexo’s policies and procedures.

Position Summary

Provides leadership and supervision for the on-site food service exempt and non-exempt level staff in the delivery of our contractual agreement with the client. Provides supervision for food services at account/unit to ensure client satisfaction and retention for the company. Implements business practices in order to uphold company mission, values and commitments made in the Sodexo client contractual agreement.
Key Duties
- Establishes a safe work environment

- Assumes General Manager’s (GM) responsibilities and authority in his/her absence

- Utilizes Sodexo tools and programs to develop client, customer, and staff relationships, to ensure account retention

- Implements and fully utilizes all Sodexo tools and programs to ensure financial outcomes

- Directs daily operations of food service to ensure employees have appropriate equipment, inventory and resources, ensures operating standards and regulatory requirements are met

- Develops and implements plans, projects, with defined objectives, methods, timetables and budget to support client and Sodexo strategic plan

- Ensures adherence to all HR standards for Sodexo, client, and regulatory agencies


Basic Education Requirement - Bachelor’s Degree 

Basic Management Experience - 3 years   

Basic Functional Experience - 3 years work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, etc.
