We are looking for a Medical Assistant (MA) to join our team and help create, execute, and deliver on our mission to improve access to care.

The MA will work in the Papago neighborhood in Tempe. The MA will participate in planning, providing, and evaluating patient care at the appropriate skill level. They have a duty to provide a standard of care that meets or exceeds that of a reasonably competent and knowledgeable Medical Assistant. The MA performs duties within their scope of practice delegated by, and under the supervision of, licensed practice clinicians. The MA will also work in the front office and assist patients with appointment and registration questions, set a welcoming, supportive tone for our service and have an eye toward problem solving.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Welcomes patients to the clinic and answers basic questions about health care services offered at the neighborhood clinic.

  • Keeps a focus on patients and escalates acute needs to clinic staff.

  • Has knowledge of the neighborhood and is prepared to interface with a variety of personalities daily while ensuring a level of cultural sensitivities.

  • Maintains the waiting room to support a warm and welcoming environment.

  • Keen cash handling skills, encounter documentation and required reporting as required.

  • Performs all duties within the scope of a Medical Assistant’s standards of practice. Performs quality control checks on equipment, supports providers/nurses, and assists in completing tasks related to quality operations.

  • Rooms patients according to policy and procedures, prepares patient for examination.

  • Records patient care documentation in the medical record accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Respects patient confidentiality at all times and treats patients with courtesy and respect.

  • Organizes exam and treatment rooms, stocks and cleans rooms and sterilizes instruments.

  • Supports and follows Standard Delegation of Orders (SDO).

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned


Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED (or higher) or equivalent with completion of Medical Assisting training program.

  • BLS certification or the ability to obtain the certification within 30 days of employment

  • 2+ years of medical assistant experience OR experience in a medical office.

  • Bilingual in Spanish.

  • Spansih medical terminology certification is a plus.

  • Solid knowledge of medical terminology with willingness to translate to English.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Current, nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification or the ability to obtain the certification within 180 days of employment. Medical Assistants who are hired prior to receiving their certification are expected to perform at the same level as a “certified” Medical Assistant

  • At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant in an integrated practice setting.

  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding

  • Experience with the Vaccine for Children program

  • Willingness to participate in community events.
