The Associate Medical Director (AMD) is a key member of the Market Leadership and Management Team who shares responsibility for decision making and outcomes in the market with the other members of the market team. The AMD is responsible for improving the quality and efficiency of medical care in his/her market(s) and leading the provider network (both employed and contracted).
Oversees and manages the hospitalist team and ensures assigned market deliverables are implemented in an effective and timely manner
Develops and maintain a collegial relationship with primary care and specialist physicians (employed and contracted), care management and operational leadership in order to support the business efforts of the organization
Facilitates hospitalist/SNFist participation in standardized, functional Patient Care Coordination (PCC) meetings and ensures patient information is disseminated to physicians to ensure appropriate patient care is being delivered
Implement market specific initiatives (including PCC, Optimal Care, and WellMed Care Model) and ensures that processes and procedures are in line with the business model outlined by corporate offices
Drives improvement of hospitalist/SNFist metrics and quality indicators in assigned market by identifying, directing, and executing continuous quality improvement activities or processes
Oversees and manages the Hospitalist and/or SNF Lead Physician(s) as well as provide leadership and mentoring in the establishment of departmental objectives related to staffing plans, financial goals, etc.
Ensures physician compliance with federal and state regulations as well as internal policies and procedures
Performs annual evaluations of the Lead Physician(s), hospitalist/SNFists, and other providers as directed
Participates in WellMed and Third Party Payer Committees as deemed necessary by business needs
Collaborates with Market Operations and Provider Relations staff in the market(s)
Participates in hospital and SNF Joint Operating Committee (JOC) meetings as assigned
Performs all other related duties as assigned
- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.)
- 3+ years of clinical experience in the inpatient or post-acute setting, including one or more years of leadership experience
- Current board certification from ABMS or ABOS specialty board in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
- Active, unrestricted medical license in applicable state(s), or ability to obtain licenses rapidly
- Valid DEA

- 2+ years managed care experience within WellMed
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) fluency
