Description

The Spanish Editor will be responsible for composing, reviewing and editing copy for digital and print, including but not limited to web, email, emergency communications, one-pagers, reflection materials, advocacy alerts, and talking points culturally appropriate and relevant for our Hispanic audience.

The Editor will play a leadership role in developing and maintaining the voice and tone of CRS's issue-based campaign content, working closely with the Hispanic Marketing Team, Hispanic Development Team, the Senior Advisor for Hispanic Engagement, and others across the agency.

The Editor will serve CRS's three US-facing divisions--Mission and Mobilization, Marketing/Communications, and Charitable Giving--by providing editorial oversight, working to synergize our communications to the Hispanic community.

Job Summary

Roles and Key Responsibilities

Campaign Content Copywriting

  • · Edit copy drafted for Mission and Mobilization Issue-Based Campaigns -- working closely with the Lead Content Producer for Spanish-preferred audiences -- including but not limited to reflection resources, informational sheets, talking points, scripts, emails and webpages
  • · Collaborate with the Content Action, Hispanic Engagement and Church Engagement teams to draft and edit inspirational communication pieces that motivate constituents and key partners (e.g. Lay Apostolic Movements, Encuentro leadership, etc.) to take meaningful action in accordance with campaign goals

Translation Support

  • · Serve as the primary point of contact to meet translation needs across Mission and Mobilization and other divisions as appropriate, ensuring cultural relevance in all content, and liaising with external translators, as necessary

Spanish Language Style and Brand

  • · Provide leadership in developing and maintaining the voice and tone of all Spanish-language content in support of CRS's issue-based campaigns for key US-based audiences, including but not limited to, parish leaders, university students, Lay Apostolic Movements, etc.
  • · Collaborate with other relevant teams (Hispanic Engagement, Hispanic Marketing, Hispanic Development, etc.) in overseeing and contributing to agency-wide initiatives around Spanish-language style and branding

Editorial Support and Oversight

  • · Support the editorial needs of the three US-facing divisions: Mission and Mobilization, Charitable Giving and Marketing/Communications, as necessary and appropriate
  • · Record and track agency-wide efforts and needs around Spanish-language copyediting

Basic Qualifications (BQs)

  • · Bachelor's degree in writing, Spanish language and/or literature, journalism, marketing, communications and/or other related field.
  • · Minimum five years work experience in a related area.
  • · Fluency in Spanish.
  • · In-depth knowledge of Catholic social teaching and structure of the Catholic Church.
  • · Proven editing skills in a variety of formats and brand voices.
  • · Obsessive attention to details.
  • · Familiarity with AP Style Guide.
  • · Copy editing for print and online.
  • · Experience in materials development for U.S. Hispanic Catholic audiences.
  • · Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • · Highly self-motivated and self-directed with ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • · Highly collaborative team player, able to work independently and with others.
  • · Able to display critical thinking and self-reflection, particularly as it applies to continual improvement of work products

Travel-- Occasional travel in the US and overseas as necessary.
